Our people and our clients are our two most important assets: we want our clients to view us as an integral part of their business success, and we want our employees to find Madden a rewarding place to work. The value we provide our clients comes from the value of our employees. We expect excellence from each employee; we strive to equip each employee to achieve their best; we try to communicate to each employee our appreciation for a job well done.
Communication and Feedback
To provide feedback on work quality, we have a formal program of annual performance evaluations. Every position has a standardized evaluation form, so everyone in a position is measured against the same yardstick; the employee and supervisor discuss not only the results from the prior year, but also the direction for the months to come. Between reviews, we have an open-door policy so there can be a continuous feedback loop instead of waiting twelve months for resolution.
In addition, we have conducted formal employee surveys to provide a confidential forum for expressing opinions about the company and its direction, strengths, and areas for improvement. Even more meaningful have been the follow-up projects undertaken by management and workers to act upon the survey input.
Training
We have a structured training program with dedicated staff. Through internal training, process documentation, and approved outside training, we do all we can to ensure our employees perform at an optimum level.
Teamwork
We strive to maintain a culture where skills can be honed, expertise enhanced, and innovative thought nurtured, for our ability to collaborate with our clients and be their solution provider is only as strong as our staff. Part of this involves a team structure where each member shares knowledge and information with the others, helping one another grow and meet the needs of our clients. Within this team framework, employees are encouraged to have a sense of ownership and personal pride in their work.
Appreciation
While evaluation and education are crucial, for an employee, nothing can replace knowing that he or she is valued. Besides individual recognition for jobs well done, we have a number of regular events for the entire company. These include:
- Annual holiday party every December
- Formal recognition of service milestones
- Company-wide anniversary luncheon in honor of each employee who reaches 25 years of service
- Company-wide retirement luncheon for each retiring employee with at least ten years of service
- Annual golf outing
- Sponsorship of company sports teams
Charitable Contributions
Particularly important to Madden is giving back to the community and to organizations whose “core” function is to serve others. Throughout our history we have supported many charities, both financially and through donation of services as a company, and through the volunteer efforts of our employees. Organizations we are currently involved with include Maryville Academy, Misericordia, Futures for Children, and Direct Effect Charities’ Letters to Santa. Madden sponsored a military care package event to support the troops serving in Iraq. We have been a Corporate Benefactor of the annual Women in POP benefit, and contribute to community endeavors such as the Workplace Skills Enhancement Literacy Programs and Child’s Voice School. We are also committed to the development of minority- and women-owned businesses.
